Grit Treatment

Grit and other heavy mineral solids should be removed early in wastewater treatment to reduce abrasive equipment wear and solids accumulation in downstream units.

After separation, grit may require washing, classification and dewatering. Equipment selection depends on the quantity and composition of the mineral fraction, required separation of organic matter and intended downstream handling.
